The Sappony have about 850 Tribal members who all descend from the
seven main families or clans, each with unique but related histories
that have enriched our community. One person from each of the seven
families serves as a representative on our Tribal Council. The seven
feathers found on our Tribal Insignia represent the seven families
of the Sappony.
An elected Tribal Chair and Tribal Chief lead the Council and an
executive director carries out the directives and goals of the Council
along with the Tribal treasurer and secretary. Committees are used
to address specific community concerns and priorities such as access
to education, economic development and organizing important Tribal
events.
Our mission, stated above, is reflected in our current programs
and used when considering any new initiatives.
